As we have done in the past, this post contains several charts showing estimated corn planting progress data, in actual acreage terms, as it has progressed so far, as well as showing a comparison of estimated acres remaining to be planted and estimated acres planted each week. We will start providing similar charts for soybeans in the next week or so when USDA begins including soybean planting progress data in their Crop Progress updates. The USDA’s March 31 Prospective Plantings report state-level acreage estimates are used in the calculations.
Based on the individual state planting progress reports, an estimated 2.7 million acres of corn were planted last week compared to 1.7 million acres which would have been planted if last week’s planting advanced in line with the 5-year average pace for the week. An estimated 5.4 million acres of corn have been planted so far vs 4.7 million which would have been planted if corn planting were moving in line with average levels. Roughly 85.7 million acres of corn remains to be planted based on the USDA’s March 31 Prospective Plantings report estimate vs 86.4 million which would have been left to plant based on an average planting pace.
