In this post, we provide several charts showing estimated corn and soybean planting progress data, in actual acreage terms, as it has progressed so far, as well as showing a comparison of estimated acres remaining to be planted and estimated acres planted each week. The USDA’s March 29 Prospective Plantings report state-level acreage estimates are used in the calculations.

Based on the individual state planting progress reports, an estimated 8.1 million acres of corn were planted last week compared to 5.1 million acres which would have been planted if last week’s planting advanced in line with the 5-year average pace for the week. An estimated 62.5 million acres of corn has been planted so far vs 88.5 million which would have been planted if corn planting were moving in line with average levels. Roughly 30.3 million acres of corn remains to be planted based on the USDA’s March 29 Prospective Plantings report estimate vs 4.3 million which would have been left to plant based on an average planting pace.

For soybeans, an estimated 8.7 million acres were planted last week compared to 11.7 million acres which would have been planted if last week’s planting advanced in line with the 5-year average pace for the week. An estimated 33.0 million acres of soybeans have been planted so far vs 66.0 million which would have been planted if planting were moving in line with average levels. Roughly 51.6 million acres of soybeans remain to be planted based on the USDA’s March 29 Prospective Plantings report estimate vs 18.6 million which would have been left to plant based on an average planting pace.

NOTE: Maps of each state’s planting progress relative to average is at the end of this post for reference.
